Hey Legionnaires!
Well I felt compelled to write a second blog today, and for no reason, other than to entertain the masses, I have blessed you all with my presence!
The subject right now: Comics.
As the focus of two upcoming items in my life, as well as pretty much the entire focus of most of my life, comics are something near and dear to my heart, and I am sure that for the rest of my time on this rock, comics will always play a vital role in shaping the life of the Forch.
The first item: Sketch of Life.
Sketch of Life Trailer
Sketch of Life is the documentary that I am in, done by a bunch of wonderfully talented students from Niagara College who, only because they felt that I had a presence that would add to their film, chose to make me a part of this idea that they had.
It was an adventure of a lifetime that I will never, ever forget. Because of this student film, project, I received the opportunity to not only be immortalized on film, and get my name on the IMDB, but I also got a once-in-a-lifetime chance to go to Wondercon, in San Francisco, and take a vacation that I would not normally have the chance to enjoy.
And the best part, is that the culmination of all of the hard work of Dan, Ryan, Ellie, Derek, Jay and the rest of the gang is finally coming to fruition, and I finally get to see it (Soon, I hope!) And to tell you the truth, I am really excited to relive a great time in my life.
One of the things that I am very happy to mention about Sketch of Life, was that recently, Dan Ricotone, the director of the film mentioned to me that the film was going to be screened at the "Hot Docs Film Festival" in Toronto, which features more than 150 films from April 30th-May10th, and a movie that I am in, is a part of that! To say that I am proud of this, is to be an understatement.
The Second item, is the Bowl for Kids Sake 2009. This year has a Superhero theme to it. And I am really excited about the "Forch Foreign Legion" being represented. Myself, along with Mike, Jen and Lesley are going to try and surpass our team goal of raising over $250 for Big Brothers, Big Sisters of St Catharines. Click the link above if you would like to help support myself and the team.
To say that I love comics is a gross understatement.
To say that comics are one of the most single important aspects of who I am... Well that would be more of an astute observation!
Whether it's watching Iron Man, or The Dark Knight. Reading my Watchmen trade, or enjoying a weekly episode of Smallville. Comics have enriched my life in a way that very few people in my life can understand. Because of Comics, ideas like good and evil have been made perfectly clear to me. Because of Comics, the ideals of heroism were bestowed upon me. Because of Comics, I learned to read. Because of Comics, I've developed an amazing imagination, incredible linguistic skills as well as a life, that at times made me the great person, and the great father that I am.
And to tell you the truth, I wouldn't trade it in for the world!!! :)
But that's just my opinion, what do I know???
